Yeah, but those martyrs weren't real Christians. The Church was already corrupted by then with image-worshippers. After the apostles died, there weren't any more real Christians until Martin Luther in 1517. And then our eyes were opened and we saw that, if you have a personal relationship with Jesus, you make tons of money and your kids don't have kids out of wedlock.
So Jesus would have left the Christians between the 2nd and 16th century AD be all damned?
We have had enough of all these "Great Apostacy" thesis, really...
1."those martyrs weren't real Christians"
-Cyril of Jerusalem has said:
"If any man does not receive baptism, he does not have salvation. The only exception is the martyrs, who even without water will receive the kingdom.
. . . For the Savior calls martyrdom a baptism, saying, ‘Can you drink the cup which I drink and be baptized with the baptism with which I am to be baptized [Mark 10:38]?’ Indeed, the martyrs too confess, by being made a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to men [1 Cor. 4:9]" (Catechetical Lectures 3:10 [A.D. 350]).
2."The Church was already corrupted"
-"And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it." (Matthew 16:18)
And, like I said, Christ gave us the Church, and since it is His body, it is incorruptible. Not in the meaning of being unable to make an error, but that heresy and confusion will always be rejected and will not stay there forever, like Christ's body will always reject dirt and viruses.
3."image-worshippers"
-What about the Dura-Europos synagogue?
-"Now if it is not sinful for me to have Christ's picture in my heart, why should it be sinful to have it before my eyes?" - Martin Luther himself
Now, I should advise you to read more on this blog before posting comments.
Uhm,.. Mr. Wattox,
Rob (aka, Odysseus) was kidding. :-) -- He's Roman Catholic, not Protestant..
Just as bad!
:-/
Just kidding...
Not quite as bad ;)
